We live in a time full of new opportunities and often bewildering challenges that can knock us off our intended path in life. Learning to navigate in these times can be hard.
The personal “year in review” annual ritual reconnects you with your values and goals, highlights your recent successes, and sharpens your focus on your goals for the year ahead. It helps you put the past year in perspective and turn toward the year to come with more clarity and purpose.
You can think of your purpose, values, and dreams as your North Star. The North Star, also called Polaris, sits directly about the Earth’s north pole along the earth’s rotational axis. What’s special about Polaris is that it always stays in roughly the same place in the sky, so it’s a reliable way to find the direction of north. In fact, it’s been used for navigation for thousands of years by explorers and mariners, even up to today. We refer to your purpose, values, and dreams as your North Star because they are constants in your life that can guide you regardless of what is going on in your life at the moment.
